Lithium Thionyl Chloride (Li-SOCl2) Batteries
A Li-SOCl2 battery is a non-rechargeable 3.6 V lithium cell made for long life at low current. It is used in utility meters, asset trackers, alarms and IoT devices that must run for years without a battery change. Jetray supplies Li-SOCl2 cells for OEMs and distributors.

What makes it different
Voltage
3.6 V nominal, higher than a 3 V lithium coin cell.
Long life at low current
Suited to devices that draw little and sleep most of the time.
Wide temperature range
Often chosen for outdoor and cold sites. Check the datasheet for the exact range.
Long shelf life
A cell can wait in storage and still work when installed.
It is not meant for high pulses on its own. Devices with radio bursts may need a pulse-support part. See below.
Common ER sizes
Available cells and brands depend on stock and the maker. Tell us the code you need.
Bobbin or spiral
Choose by your current profile. If your device sends radio bursts, tell us the pulse size and length.
Pulses and hybrid layer capacitors
A device that wakes up for a short radio burst may need more current than a bobbin cell likes. A pulse capacitor in the pack can supply the burst and let the cell run at low current. We can build a battery with the capacitor included.
Need Li-SOCl2 cells?
Send the code and quantity. We reply within 24 hours.
Terminals and packs
- Cells with solder pins, axial leads or tabs.
- Connectors to your design.
- Two or more cells in a pack, with heat-shrink and leads.
Send a drawing or a sample of the connector.

Where it is used
Utility metering, asset tracking, alarms and security, memory backup, real-time clocks and industrial sensors.
Order size, documents and delivery
Send the model, size and quantity. MOQ depends on the model. UN38.3 and MSDS documents are available. Li-SOCl2 cells are regulated for transport, and we pack and label to the rules. We ship worldwide from Shenzhen.
Estimating how long a cell lasts
Divide the usable capacity by the average current. Average current is the sleep current plus the energy of each wake-up spread over time. For example, a meter that sleeps at a few microamps and wakes briefly each hour uses very little on average, which is why Li-SOCl2 suits it.
Use the datasheet's capacity at your current and temperature, not the headline figure. Send your current profile and we help check.

Passivation after storage
Li-SOCl2 cells can build a thin layer on the lithium over long storage. When the cell first meets a load, the voltage can dip for a short time. Devices that need a stable voltage at start-up should allow for it. Tell us if your device resets when the voltage dips.
Temperature and installation
- Check the operating temperature in the datasheet for your site.
- Do not solder the cell body directly. Use cells with tabs or leads where soldering is needed.
- Keep the cell away from heat sources during assembly.
- Do not short or recharge the cell.

Frequently asked questions
No. It is a primary cell. Charging can be dangerous.
Cells from other makers with the same size and voltage, after you check the capacity, current and terminals. Send the part and we confirm.
For long life at low current, often yes. For a thin device, a coin cell may be the only fit. See Coin cells.
Yes. Send the drawing.
We supply primary lithium batteries from Panasonic, Maxell, FDK and Seiko. We confirm the part for your size.
It may be passivation after storage. A short load can clear it. Tell us your device, and we advise.
Yes, with the right protection and design. Tell us the layout and we build the pack.
Tell us the temperature range, and we recommend a cell.
